SPOTLIGHT ON: Toi Ōtautahi 2025 Arts Workshops: Advocacy for Artists and Arts Organisations

Aotearoa New Zealand’s arts, cultural and creative sectors continue to face complex and significant challenges. A flourishing future for our arts sector will require a collective approach to advocating for the changes that will make the biggest difference.

This session draws heavily on the significant research and subsequent publication of ‘A guide for arts advocates’ by Creative New Zealand in partnership with The Workshop, and uses the narratives for change approach, which focuses on changing the way we talk about big issues to shift mindsets over the medium to long term.

Led by Steph Walker (WORD Festival, Executive Director) and Jamie Hanton (Community Arts Advisor, Christchurch City Council), the workshop will be lightly interactive.

5pm – 7pm
Toi Auaha, 5 Worcester Boulevard

“In the past 14 years Christchurch has been to hell and back – now it’s emerging from the rubble as the country’s most vibrant place to be. Christchurch is bouncing back, and is now described as the ‘capital of cool’.”
