Yarnachy Silent Disco Tour

image

After an (almost) sold out season at the World Buskers Festival 2026, the Joy Fools bring you the Yarnarchy Silent Disco Tour! Delivering playful good times and dancing in the streets – from the moment you choose your personalised yarn bomb headset and the tunes begin.

Get ready to explore Yarnarchy (yarn bomb festival) in Cathedral Square with your Joy Fool guides, Clementine and Diane. They will be delivering a yarn bombed musical odyssey for you to dance your way through the Yarnarchy Festival. It’ll be very fun and very silly! Spaces are limited. Don’t miss out on this, quite frankly, unique opportunity. This could be your one and only chance to experience Cathedral Square like this, the mind boggles.

We definitely encourage knitted and crochet outfits. Dive deep into the woolies drawer, dust off the mothballs and get it on – you know you want to!

Meet at the Colombo Street entrance of Tūranga Library – inside the library entrance.

Yarnarchy celebrates local craftivists with an annual yarn bomb festival. Wild crochet and playful knitted works of art are unleashed on the trees, seats and buildings of Ōtautahi. The central city becomes an open air exhibition showcasing the incredible talent and creativity of our community. Some works are large scale solo pieces, others are comprised of hundreds of individual contributions. All the yarn bombs (every single stitch) is made by hand and involves countless hours of innovation and creativity. This year the Yarnarchists have created 25 individual yarn bomb headsets for the Yarnarchy Silent Disco.

Yarnarchy runs from September 19th till October 18th. Note – once we gift Yarnarchy to the ‘Square’ anything can happen. We may have to remove installations if they get vandalised.

The Yarnarchy Silent Disco Tour is a wild and wooly way to experience the Yarnarchy Festival!

This project is supported by Creative New Zealand through the Creative Communities Scheme. Christchurch City Council, Watch this Space and Silent Disco NZ.
