Tiny Fest, Movement Art Practice and this year’s choreographer Janaína Moraes invite you to be part of MANIFESTA.

Join us in co-creating an epic site-specific performance response, located in the Climate Action Campus on Avonside Drive.

The Community Choreographic Project (CCP) is an opportunity for community dancers and artists to perform in professional choreography in a site-specific location in Christchurch. The unique locations of the performances are engaging and artistically challenging for audiences.

This year, the project MANIFESTA will bring a party-protest performance to move the grounds of the Climate Action Campus (CAC) thinking about the collective “party-body” as a political one: a body in potential, a body in protest. Taking inspiration from carnaval culture from around the world and Ōtautahi’s rave scene, we will be presenting our version of a winter parade highlighting the climate crisis as the focus of our protest/party.

The invited choreographer, Janaína Moraes, is a Brazilian artist based in New Zealand since 2020, where she has been growing her research on invitation poétics and practices of coexistence.

  • “I am super excited to see Ōtautahian rave scene meeting Latina carnaval energy and to co-make moments of raving and raging through joy and collective dream-action!” –  Janaína Moraes

The soundscape will be designed by local sound artist Bea Gladding (Mr. Meaty Boy) and three local musical groups will participate bringing live music performance excerpts: DziDzor Uplifting African Drum and Dance; UC Samba Group; and Clube do Choro.
