Born in Christchurch, Tiki Taane picked up the acoustic guitar at age 12, followed it up with an electric, and at age 14 had formed his own four-piece band. But it was a Certificate in Audio Engineering – earned at Te Rūnanga o Ngā Maata Waka in Linwood – and a night out at his first dance party, that shaped the following years. Sound mixing for fellow Christchurch acts and touring bands, it was his job on a Salmonella Dub tour that eventually thrust Taane into the frontman role with the smash Sal Dub single ‘For The Love of It’. Taane has gone on to release platinum selling albums – including one of New Zealand’s biggest selling singles ‘Always On My Mind’– perform at WOMAD, Homegrown and Splore festivals, and produce Six60’s award-winning debut album.
