What's Happening

Hagley Theatre School is an acting and theatre-making centre inspired by leading international training studios and grounded in embodied theatre pedagogy. Our practice combines rigorous acting training, creativity, collaboration, and experimentation, encouraging students to develop not only as performers but also as independent theatre-makers.

HTS offers two specialist programmes. The One-Year Acting Training Course provides intensive practical training in movement, voice, improvisation, circus, mask, clown, puppetry, melodrama, Te Ao Haka, and other performance disciplines, preparing students for contemporary performance-making. Graduates can progress into the Six-Month Theatre Creation Course, a project-based programme where students develop and present original work in partnership with professional theatre venues and practitioners.
