Join visiting Zen teacher Jody Hojin Kimmel Sensei for a creative full-day workshop exploring haiga and ekphrasis. Haiga brings together brushwork and poetry, while ekphrasis invites writing shaped by images. Through guided practice, steady attention, and simple materials, participants discover how creativity can arise naturally from presence itself.
Hojin Sensei is the Abbot of the Zen Center of New York City and a long-time teacher in the Mountains and Rivers Order, with more than three decades of residential Zen training and creative teaching experience.
The day includes meditation instruction for newcomers, time for reflection, and supportive group practice. No artistic background, writing experience, or Zen training is required — this workshop is open to complete beginners as well as those with established practice.
All materials are provided.
