209 Antarctic Connections uses the story of a 1970s South Pole photocopier to invite people to reveal how Antarctica has touched their lives — a page for a season on the ice, a family memory, a photograph, or simply the way Antarctica found its way into someone’s imagination.
For decades, a 3M 209 copier quietly worked at the South Pole.
Today it has one final job — collecting the stories of people whose lives have been touched by Antarctica. It might be a single moment, friendship, photograph or season on the Ice.
Perhaps a family connection or simply the way Antarctica found its way into your life.

What is the 209 collection?
209 Antarctic Connections is a growing collection of personal stories about the many ways Antarctica enters our lives. Each contribution becomes a page—continuing the spirit of Kinsey’s historic Visitors Book and creating a contemporary record of the people connected to the Ice.
The pages may be shared through the 209 installation, exhibitions, printed publications and online as the collection grows.
You do not need to have been to Antarctica.
Your connection might come through work, family, friendship, art, science, travel, a photograph, an object, a story handed down—or simply a moment when Antarctica changed the way you saw the world. Every connection counts.

Your story will come directly to me, Rewa. I will read it personally and may contact you if I have a question or would like to help shape it into a page.
