SCAPE Public Art will show work by seven New Zealand artists for its forthcoming Season.

They are: Darcell Apelu, Ngaio Cowell, Mike Hewson, Julia Holderness, Kulimoe’anga Stone Maka, Ming Ranginui, and Luke Shaw. All will be showing new work, except Darcell Apelu whose work Carry Me With You will be relocated from Auckland Art Gallery Toi o Tamaki to be viewed in Te Wai Pounamu South Island for the first time.

The SCAPE Public Art Season runs 23 November 2024 to 15 February 2025.

Works are responding to the theme Material/Immaterial Worlds, set by SCAPE Managing Curator Tyson Campbell. Works will be installed for three months on temporary sites around the central city and will be free to view any time.

Ōtautahi Christchurch creativity will have a strong presence this Season: five of the seven artists were born, educated, and/or live in the city. In addition, almost 400 children and young people from Christchurch schools entered SCAPE’s Inside Out competition for aspiring artists. The top five sculptures and murals will be produced and shown at Te Matatiki Toi Ora The Arts Centre during the Season.
