Formed in Christchurch in 1999, drum, bass and heavy soul act Shapeshifter have become one of New Zealand’s most enduring acts. The first configuration of the band pulled together Christchurch Jazz School students Devin Abrams, Redford Grenell, Nick Robinson and Sam Trevethick – also luring in a promising sound engineer by the name of Tiki Taane for their live mix. Several gold and platinum-selling albums, sold-out tours, side projects and a couple of line-up changes have peppered the band’s timeline since those early Christchurch days but the band remain as strong as ever – new album ‘Rituals’ was released in 2021 and a summer tour is slated to kick off in December 2021.
