Join Leimomi Oakes and Kate Sheppard House for a captivating journey into the world of suffrage and fashion. Leimomi Oakes is a fashion and social historian. Her focus is domestic life and women’s history in New Zealand in the late 19th and 20th century.
Leimomi will explore the ways fashion supported and reflected the suffrage movement—from the rational dress reformers advocating for freedom in women’s attire, to the powerful choice of the white camellia as an emblem. As well as the striking impact of Kate’s Sheppards own wardrobe choices, including her gown immortalized on the $10 note.
