Book launch and panel chat: ‘Needles & Plastic: Flying Nun Records, 1981-1988’ by Matthew Goody.
Wednesday 16 November 5.30pm at Lyttelton Coffee Company.
Canadian writer Matthew Goody’s Needles & Plastic: Flying Nun Records, 1981-1988 Auckland University Press is a lavishly illustrated and meticulously researched account (it took him ten years!) of the world famous record label Flying Nun Records. The book focuses on 1981–1988 – the critical early years, when the label was based in Christchurch.
It’s only fitting that Matthew comes all the way from Vancouver to launch the book where it all began, and along with WORD’s own Kiran Dass will host an informal Q&A at Lyttelton Coffee Co with heavyweight Flying Nun alumni Roy Montgomery (The Pin Group),Bruce Russell (The Dead C), Paul Kean (Toy Love, The Bats) and Rachael King (The Cakekitchen).
Kiran and Roy will be spinning records before and afterwards. Free to attend, all welcome.
