Twinkling in the winter sky just before dawn, Matariki – Puaka signals the Māori New Year. For Māori, the appearance of Matariki heralds a time of remembrance, joy and peace. It is a time for communities to come together and celebrate.
Te Matatiki Toi Ora The Arts Centre are partnering with amazing local Māori artists to showcase ngā toi (the arts) through some wide ranging events, including Hiwa-i-te-Rangi exhibition featuring talented local Māori artists, a Kapa Haka Showcase, Lumière Cinema playing The Lion King Reo Māori (PG. Violence), Ad Parnassum – Purapurawhetū dance film by Daniel Belton projected across the North Quad, th’Orchard Dreamers – Chapter 2, a Stone Hammering Wānanga (Workshop) with Dr Areta Wilkinson and a Matariki Sketch Night. All in all, there are 18 events and activities to choose from so make sure you check out the full programme and book your seat.
