Join ecological artist and educator Laura Donkers, for an artist talk and hands on workshop based on her current Subsume exhibition at Stoddart Cottage Gallery. Laura will be talking about the show in relation to the environmental issue of deforestation. She will also show some of the works she’s been making over her month as an artist-in-residence in Purau/Diamond Harbour that draw attention to the singular trees found on the hillsides of the Banks Peninsula.

In the second part of the event, Laura will share insights about the process and ideas behind the frottage technique she has used to create of these works. Frottage produces an image through rubbing a textured surface with a drawing instrument. Those interested can then explore this process with Laura, using tissue paper on shells, small stones and sticks to start to see these objects through a more intimate engagement. Suitable for beginners and artists interested in exploring a new technique.
