At a time of rapid digital change, understanding how to protect your work is more important than ever. Whether you’re navigating the complexities of intellectual property, curious about the impacts of artificial intelligence on the arts or want to understand the latest updates to the Artists Resale Royalty Act, this Toi Ōtautahi monthly workshop session is for you.

Karen Workman (Copyright Licensing New Zealand) will lead a deep dive into the legalities of being a maker today relevant to those from diverse creative fields. You’ll walk away with expert advice on how to avoid misunderstandings, prevent infringements, and advocate for your own compensation. Clear, expert-led, and completely free: don’t miss this chance to have all your IP questions answered.

Workshop schedule: Doors will open at 5.15pm. The workshop will start at 5.30pm sharp and take 60 minutes. If you cannot attend the whole workshop, you are welcome to come for as much as you can. Pēpi and tamariki are always welcome to attend with you!

Usually on the first Wednesday of every month, Toi Ōtautahi hosts free arts development workshops for artists and arts organisations. Want to know more, go to: https://toiotautahi.org.nz/

Please note that this is an in-person workshop on the 2nd Wednesday of June this month. The workshops return to first Wednesday from July.

Karen Workman is part of the Copyright Licensing New Zealand team and is focused on the development of the Creative Rights Education programme. She has years of experience in education and arts-based organisations, and was most recently in Los Angeles, where she was knee-deep in the film industry. Karen has a particular heart for helping creative people on their life journeys. When not in the office, Karen can be found sipping tea with friends and looking for the next plays, exhibitions, books and movies to enjoy.
