The CCC Archives are thrilled to announce that the Council’s architectural plan collection is now fully listed, repackaged and available to search online.
The Archivists have been working on a project to describe and rehouse the architectural plans since 2022.
This collection came from the Heritage Team but was originally collected as part of the building consent process. It includes plans for many buildings, mostly in the central city, including the Municipal Council Chambers, Christchurch Town Hall, theatres and commercial buildings dating from 1881-2004.
This collection is significant because it reflects a Christchurch that has changed so much, therefore has incredible value to the history of our city.
Everything in this collection has been catalogued, repackaged, labelled and described. The complete list of what’s in the collection is available here via ArchivesSpace our online catalogue – https://archives.canterburystories.nz/repositories/5/resources/1120.
Some of the plans in the collection have been digitised and there are still more to come. Check these out on Canterbury Stories to see what the digitised content looks like: https://www.canterburystories.nz/collections/maps-plans/architecturaldrawings/new-regent-street
