RDU, Christchurch’s long-running independent radio station, celebrates its 50th anniversary in February 2026 with a year-long programme of events highlighting its legacy of supporting local music and culture.
Founded in 1976, RDU has championed emerging artists and built deep community connections through training, partnerships, and live performance support.
Planned celebrations include a music and film festival, a “Decades of U” history book launch, public performances, and collaborations with local venues and festivals. Funding will support event and project management, publishing, and delivery of activities that connect communities, celebrate the city’s creative history, and inspire the next generation of Ōtautahi musicians.
