It can be a tough road for writers navigating the path to publishing…

How do you submit a manuscript? How do you go about getting an agent? Do you even need one?

Gina Frangello is the author of four books of fiction in addition to her searing memoir, Blow Your House Down: A Story of Family, Feminism, and Treason (Counterpoint 2021) which was a New York Times Book Review Editors’ Choice as well as making several ‘most anticipated book of the year’ lists.

She has nearly 20 years of experience as an editor, having founded both the independent press Other Voices Books and the fiction section of the popular online literary community The Nervous Breakdown.

She has also served as the Sunday editor for The Rumpus, and as the faculty editor for both TriQuarterly Online and The Coachella Review. Her short fiction, essays, book reviews and journalism have been published in such venues as Salon, the LA TimesPloughshares, the Boston GlobeBuzzFeed, the Chicago Tribune, the Huffington PostPsychology Today, and in many other magazines and anthologies.

Gina will be in Ōtautahi on February 1 to give a free talk to local writers about navigating the publishing industry.

She has some invaluable tips for writers of fiction and memoir – particularly around writing agent queries.

Attendees can bring their own query letters and Gina will workshop a few during her talk.

This talk will be immensely helpful to writers at any stage of their career  – Please RSVP at kiaora@toiotautahi.org.nz
