Let the uniqueness of the child guide our work.
Write On – The School for Young Writers is a not-for-profit organisation founded in 1993 and based in Christchurch, New Zealand, offering tuition and mentorship to young writers anywhere in the world.
We also publish WRITE ON Magazine, full of writing by New Zealand’s talented young writers.
We offer Write On Saturday classes at Ara, holiday workshops, workshops in schools, masterclasses, and online mentoring for young people from ages 6 to 19. We also provide professional development for teachers.
Our goals are to:
ENCOURAGE young writers to find and develop their own voice and style
INSPIRE young writers to participate in the creative process of writing so they can express their ideas with confidence
ENABLE young writers to experience the power and enjoyment of accomplishing writing tasks
GUIDE young writers through the process of preparing their writing for publication to bring their work to more people
Write On magazine is full of poems, stories and articles by young writers aged 6–19. It’s a great read, a superb resource for teachers and a welcome addition to any school, community or family library.
Write On is the longest-running literary journal of writing by and for young people in Aotearoa New Zealand. We celebrate children’s writing and provide an opportunity for publication. The magazine is published twice yearly, in Winter and Summer.
