Don’t miss this wonderful night celebrating 150 Years of University of Canterbury – 7.30pm August 26
The Douglas Lilburn Auditorium, Christchurch Town Hall
The immense talent of the UC Music School comes together for one very special 150th anniversary concert with the Christchurch Symphony Orchestra on Saturday 26 August at 7.30pm in the beautiful Douglas Lilburn Auditorium at the Christchurch Town Hall.
There’s a diversity of styles including two world premieres – a new percussion work by celebrated New Zealand composer Gareth Farr performed by UC percussionist Justin DeHart and a specially commissioned work by Head of Composition Reuben de Lautour and Mahina-Ina Kingi-Kaui to celebrate the 150th anniversary.
The programme includes Papanui Road Overture, a composition by former UC Head of Music 1961 to 1981 John Ritchie; pop compositions by our talented songwriting and voice tutor L A Mitchell (Lauren Barus); and a stunning work by recent masters graduate and violinist Rakuto Kurano. UC Music’s Head of Performance, Professor Mark Menzies, will conduct the CSO for this concert.
