Visual Arts

Would you like the opportunity to share your work with art-loving Kiwis? Or how about the opportunity to share your art throughout Europe? Now is your chance.

We are excited to bring the Kunstautomat experience to Ōtautahi.

Kunstautomat (Art in a Box) is the invention of Lars Kaiser (Germany) who has been installing his art vending machines around Europe for the past several years.

The Kunstautomat concept repurposes old vending machines to deliver art on demand for the small price of $6.00 a pop.

For that, you get your own unique piece of handmade art that comes in a convenient box. It could be a watercolour, a photograph, a piece of sculpture or a drawing – part of the charm of the Kunstautomat is not knowing what treasure you will find.

The Kunstautomat project NZ is a partnership between Kunstautomat Europe, the Goethe Institut NZ  and Zara Potts.

Who Can Be a Part of This Project?

Visual artists of all disciplines are invited to join the project – you can simply submit an application of interest with a bio and a link to your work and any exhibitions you may have been part of.

If you hold a tertiary degree in art, please mention that in your expression of interest.

If you don’t hold a degree, you are invited to submit an application with a brief bio and a link to your work and any exhibitions you may have been part of.

Art Content:

If you are selected to be part of this concept, you as the artist are free to select the work you want to put in the art vending machine, as long as it will fit into the maximum box dimensions of 8 cm x 5 cm x 1.8 cm and so long as it meets the Kunstautomat criteria.

If selected, you will need to make 30 art works for placement in the art vending machine.

When we receive your art work, the Kunstautomat team will print out your résumé (which you have forwarded by email). This résumé and links to your home page will then be included in every box of your art work that we place in the machines.

The art is then available for purchase from our vending machines in Germany, the Netherlands, Spain, Austria and New Zealand.

Please send expressions of interest to: kunstautomat@xtra.nz

Kunstautomat is a registered copyrighted project, established in 2001.
