Performing with the Jazz/Funk band Eat My Shorts and with a second line New Orleans Jazz style band called Ambush Brass.

What project have you worked on that you’re the most proud of?

Eat My Shorts at the Nelson Jazz Festival. Most of the crowd were not expecting a rapper so it was a real kick when they got into it and gave such positive feedback.

What is essential for creatives to have in their life?

Support and a viable source of income. The ability to source what equipment is needed. Understand that is a process and regular rules do NOT apply.

Let it happen and go with the feeling. It’s not a test – there is no right or wrong.

What’s the biggest misconception about your creative work?

That it is easy money and free stuff and nowhere near as challenging as holding down a job, and you just show up and do it and don’t have to practice, buy equipment, rehearse or try hard.

What Christchurch artists do you most admire?

Wong ‘Freak’ Wilson just keeps raising the bar on his work and developing new techniques and styles while staying true to the essence of his aerosol art.

What artwork/piece of music/performance has taken your breath away?

The wall behind Embassy skate shop in Sydenham done by Bobby ‘Berst’ Hung is so intricate and despite seeing it most days for 5 years I have never tired of it or seen every last nuance.

What do you wish you’d have known about creative work when you were younger?

Nothing comes without hard work and passion and never believe a survey of one. There are tons of ways to make money but this is the one form that will fill you with joy. Be true to yourself.
