On Saturday the 19th of August, Savanah Tukariri and Kerepeti Paraone will be leading a free-to-attend poi workshop at Te Matatiki Toi Ora in Ōtautahi.
The workshop will include poi making, learning poi movement, materials and a light kai.

Welcome and Introduction to Poi Workshop
1.20pm – 2.45pm
Facilitators and helpers assist participants in creating their own poi.
2.45pm – 3.00pm
Paramanawa – Light refreshments
2.30pm – 3.30pm
Learning/Performing Poi Basics
This workshop is also kids friendly; however, supervision is required.

Savanah Tukariri
(Ngāi Tahu, Ngāti Mutunga, Ngāpuhi)
Savanah is a multi-passionate māori creative, with 20+ years’ experience in Kapa Haka which she uses as the foundations of her art. She teaches Māori Movement at Movement Art Practice, as well as leading Poi and Māori Movement workshops in Ōtautahi. Savanah has collaborated with the CSO, The Court Theatre and presented at Tiny Fest 2023.
Kerepeti Paraone
(Ngāi Tahu, Kāti Mamoe, Waitaha, Te Waiariki, Ngāti Hine)
Kerepeti is the founder of māori production company, Kororātahi Creative. He is a kaihaka, filmmaker, musician and composer; however, primarily works in film capturing archival, Iwi and environmental related content. He has worked independently on films as well as music videos. His works span across almost a decade of collaborations with The Court Theatre, CSO, TinyFest, Te Ahikaaroa Kapa Haka, and Mahi Mahi Productions to name a few.
Each of his past projects has a strong focus on community, the environment and amplifying the voices of our māori, pasifika and indigenous artists and narratives.
