Flying Nun Records is coming home to Christchurch!

First up — on April 20th & 21st  – there will be a Record Store Day Pop-Up featuring live performances from Adam Hattaway and the Haunters, Jay Clarkson and the Containers, and Moider Mother!

There will also be Flying Nun Records & Merch Galore, RSD Titles, Japanese 45’s, Special Offers, Releases from Albert’s Basement & Leather Jacket Records, and even the elusive TV EYE / Say Yes To Apes back catalogue!

You can find the Flying Nun Records pop up at The Terrace Arcade, Christchurch (near Scorpio Books)

This is a pre fit-out pop up open for 2 days only — April 20th + 21st, 10am to 6pm.

But the very exciting news is that the grand opening of the permanent Flying Nun Records will happen on May 31st once the shop fit-out is complete.

The person behind this marvellous idea is Matthias McGregor of Leather Jacket Records. For him, having a Flying Nun store in the label’s hometown is a dream come true.

“My own label Leather Jacket Records has released several records associated with Flying Nun, and we’ve really benefited from the encouragement and ideas from the staff at Flying Nun in Wellington and Auckland.”

As well as stocking the Flying Nun label, the new Christchurch shop will specialise in “Flying-Nun-Adjacent” music & merch.

“We’ll also have a lot of stuff that isn’t on Flying Nun but is related in some way. There are loads of Aotearoa artists that cite a Flying Nun influence, and it also extends out internationally to bands like Stereolab or Pavement, and US labels we adore like Merge & Ba-Da-Bing.”

Matthias says the store will also play host to regular in-store appearances and musical events once it opens on May 31st.

So, get a taste of what’s to come at the Record Day pop up store on April 20 and 21st at the Terrace Arcade in the CBD.
