One of Christchurch’s popular artists Rudolf Boelee has died.
Boelee, who immigrated to New Zealand from the Netherlands in 1963, had been painting and exhibiting his work for more than 40 years.
He died on January 15 from heart failure. He was 84 years old.
Boelee was known for his portrayal of popular culture, including a screenprint of the New Zealand Railways tea cup.
His wife of 37 years, Robyne Voyce, said Boelee had a modern style at a time when art was quite traditional in New Zealand.
“He just opened it all up for us all by doing what he did.”
