Oxford Gallery invites audiences to experience the powerful and unpredictable force of the wind—reimagined through art. The exhibition, “What Has the Wind Blown In?”, explores themes of movement, migration, and the untamed nature of New Zealand’s weather. On one level, the exhibition references the relentless winds that shape the land, carrying flora and fauna across borders, including species from Australia. But it also speaks to the human stories of migration—the people who have “blown in” from across the world, including some of the contributing artists in this exhibition.
The collection is produced by The Critique Group Ōtautahi Christchurch, a collective of eleven artists who meet fortnightly to challenge and refine one another’s work. Through rigorous discussion and critique, the group fosters artistic growth, ensuring a strong cohesion across their diverse practices. Each artwork
showcased in “What Has the Wind Blown In?” has undergone this collaborative process. Visitors can expect a diverse range of works, including paintings, drawing, printmaking, sculpture, installation, and glasswork—each piece offering a unique interpretation of the exhibition’s theme.
The exhibition is open 11am-4pm, Thursday to Sunday until August 17 at Oxford Gallery toi o Waimakariri, 72 Main Street, Oxford.
