Come along to this term’s Art Classes with Gordon Minns – Illustration in poster design.

Each Tuesday from 10am to 12noon starting Tuesday, 26 July at The Rock, 10 Wakefield Avenue, Sumner.

Learn how to create posters based on an illustrative interpretation of a theme of your choice.

The theme (synopsis) needs to be thought about before starting the course. Themes can be derived from a book, a film, a play or a story.

In examining your theme think about the main characters, the essence of the plot line and major events.

You will be encouraged to think abstractly and “play” with a range of media and materials looking for unusual but succinct concepts or interpretations of your chosen book, film or theatre play.

The posters will include a title and some relevant details. The hierarchy, positioning and choice of lettering (typeface/s) of the title and details will be important as part of the overall communication – but remember it is a poster and its main purpose to attract first and offer details upon closer inspection.

Gordon will provide references to existing posters and a range of lettering styles as inspiration.

There is a small fee of $10 per session to cover overheads.
