Over select Saturdays throughout Scape Public Art Season 2022, Dr Jo Burzynska is hosting interactive guided experiences of her artwork in the Botanic Gardens. Jo will lead you through her Garden of Sensory Exchange, inviting you to smell fragrant plants, listen to various nature sounds, and make connections between them. This multisensory game is a fun and unique opportunity to let your imagination and senses run wild, noticing and appreciating new things in the beautiful natural surroundings.
Based in the Fragrant Garden of the Christchurch Botanic Gardens, Jo’s artwork is a multisensory experience, connecting sounds played from speakers set in the pergola with the sights and smells of the environment.
In these special artist-led sessions, Jo invites visitors to explore the process of crossmodal sensory communication. Crossmodal correspondences are the sometimes-surprising associations people experience between stimuli encountered through different senses; for example, the smell of citrus is widely matched with high pitches. Whether on your own, in a pair or a group, join Jo on this unique art experience to gain in-depth insights into her artwork and discover unexpected connections of your own.
Jo’s sessions run on the following Saturdays: 19 November, 3 & 17 December, 14 & 28 January, from 2pm-3pm.
