(Artist) Life School: Art Networking BBQ & Open Studios at Toi Auaha
Join us for an end of summer social and the start of (Artist) Life School series for 2024!
Artists operate in all sorts of ways – from those who prefer private studios, bedrooms, and garages to social butterflies that thrive in coworking spaces. When it comes to central shared studio spaces and community building; Toi Auaha in the central city is a hub for arts, culture, creativity, and ngā toi Māori in Ōtautahi.
We invite you to come and meet some of the resident artists at Toi Auaha, as well as other local artists. A selection of studios will be open, where you can see first hand different artists’ work, methods, and materials. We will be hearing rapid fire talks from Toi Auaha residents about their journey as artists and why having a studio or working space and community is important following graduation.
This is also an opportunity to familiarise yourself with this community space and chat with other artists and Christchurch City Council Community Arts staff about resources, working spaces / venues, and opportunities. Find yourself a crew to attend openings with, or start a critique group – whether you’re still studying, self taught or have long been out in the world, this event is for artists at all stages to connect and feel a sense of community.
This will also be an opportunity for slightly more guided networking with other artists – we’ll supply talking points, as well as a free BBQ to get your social juices flowing/fuel your socialising.
Bring something for the BBQ if you can.
BYO beer, wine or non alcoholic beverages.

(Artist) Life School brings together contemporary artists to further develop professional skills, and sets out to answer the curly questions around maintaining a practice out in the world. Ideal for recent graduates and emerging artists, each workshop will host an industry professional to discuss the realities of making, funding and showing your work. This series is supported by Toi Ōtautahi.
